Biggest Opening Ceremonies Ever!

The 2014 Alabama State Games have begun! The Opening Ceremonies were held Friday night at the BJCC. Several thousand filled the BJCC Arena to watch the Parade of Athletes and the Lighting of the flame. Thousands of athletes from across the state of Alabama paraded into the arena by regions. Marine Lance Corporal Jason Perkins sang the National Anthem and several other numbers. Olympic Gold Medalist Jennifer Chandler served as the Grand Marshall. The athtetes recited the Oath to the Athletes and Paralympic Medalist Maze Marshall, senior athlete Jim Robinson and Berritt Haynes, Alabama State Games Male Athlete of the Year for 2013, carried the torch and lit the flame to begin the 32nd Annual Alabama State Games. The games will run all weekend at 24 venues across the Jefferson and Shelby county area. Sports include archery, baseball, basketball, bmx racing, bowling, disc golf, diving, gymnastics, olympic-style rugby, shooting sports, soccer, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, track and field, triathlon and wrestling. All events are free and open to the public. We will be posting results here on the web site during the weekend. Check each sports page for results for that sport.

Lighting of the Flame

The Opening Ceremonies were held at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Center in Birminham, Alabama on Friday, June 20, 2014. Paralympic Athlete Maze Marshall, senior athlete Jim Robinson and 2013 Alabama State Games Athlete of the Year Berritt Haynes carried to torch.
