Opening Ceremony

Don't miss the Opening Ceremony Celebration on Friday, June 9 at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds in Dothan, AL. The Opening Ceremony Celebration will feature the Alabama State Games FanFair–fun outdoor festivities, face painting, food vendors, music, sports challenges, and more! All of this culminating into our Live-Telivised Opening Ceremony at 7:00 pm, with the Parade of Athletes, the lighting of the Olympic Flame, HUGE fireworks show, and so much more! Every registered athlete participating in the Opening Ceremony and the Parade of Athletes will receive a FREE Commemorative Opening Ceremonies Parade of Athletes T-Shirt!

This year's Opening Ceremony will be Televised Live statewide on Alabama Public Television. Live show begins at 7pm with huge fireworks and laser show following.

Ceremony will take place in the Amphitheater of the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds, with limited seating available, lawn chairs and blankets are welcomed and recommended. Bring an American Flag!

Celebrate Olympic Day


 

The United States Olympic Committee has officially recognized our events as Olympic Day events. Be sure to attend the Opening Ceremonies and Celebrate Olympic Day!


 

Free Opening Ceremonies T Shirt

All registered athletes who attend the Opening Ceremonies and participate in the Parade of Athletes will receive a free Opening Ceremonies T-shirt! You must be a registered participant!

Registered Athletes participating in the Parade of Athletes are eligible to receive academic scholarships during the Opening Ceremony presented by McAlister's Deli! 

 

Scholarships will be awarded after the Opening Ceremony fireworks and laser show. Individuals must be present to win. If an adult athlete wins a scholarship and chooses not to attend a school of higher learning, they will be allowed to transfer the scholarship to another individual attending a two or four year Institution. Scholarships will be awarded on behalf of the winner to the Institution upon notification of acceptance.

Athlete Leadership Summit


For athletes, coaches, parents, spectators and volunteers to learn the importance of academic excellence, good citizenship, responsibility, leadership and the concept of community. All athletes, parents and coaches are invited to attend the Athlete Leadership Summit. 

This year's speaker is ASF Foundation President and CEO and founder of the Alabama State Games, Ron Creel, with an enlightening and motivating program titled "No Right Way To Do Wrong." Ron Creel has served on multiple national boards including the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), and Leukemia Board. He served as President of the National Congress of State Games (NCSG), the parent organization for the State Games programs across the country. Ron served twenty years on the Board of Directors of the Alabama division of the American Cancer Society, and as a member of the State Board of Education, Ron was a Board member of every 2-year college in Alabama. He was the chief organizer and Chairman of the Board of First National Bank of Autauga County. His breadth of knowledge from business, sports, and government, as well as his amazing heart for mentoring youth make him a perfect fit for the Athlete Leadership Summit. 

The Athlete Leadership Summit showcases the importance of academics, self-respect and positive citizenship and is open for all athletes, coaches, parents, and anyone attending the Opening Ceremony. The Athlete Leadership Summit will begin at 5:00 in the Premium Building.

Entertainment:

Pure & Simple Band is an exciting mix of Bluegrass greats from Dothan, AL. Including Travis Perry-Dobro/Tenor Vocals, Steve Kirkland-Rhythm Guitar/Lead Vocals, Mike Hutto-Lead Guitar/Baritone Vocals, Greg Whigham-Banjo, John Corbin-Bass, Ronnie Retherford-Mandolin. They will play some of your Bluegrass favorites and will be a crowd hit. 

Travis Perry is well known for his creation, the ChordBuddy, a guitar learning device to teach guitar chords that was featured on ABC's Shark Tank.
